Christy McKinnon was born in Tokyo,Japan and raised in Seattle, Wa. U.S.A. She started playing piano around the age of 10 and as the youngest of 4, was influenced by many styles of music. She loved to sing and it wasn't long before she was writing her own songs.
Her first real introduction to the music business was with a country band from Mount Vernon, Wa, as the lead female vocalist.Since that time, she has performed and toured with several bands and has evolved as a singer, keyboard player, guitarist and occasional drummer / percussionist
Christy has written many songs and in 2004 released a CD called "Recollections" in collaboration with guitarist Roger Keith Wheeler. The CD is a heartwarming collection of great melodies and story telling, reflecting the music careers of both Christy and Roger. The CD demonstrates an excellent representation of Christy's vocal ability in many styles of music.
In the fall of 2009, The Blackvelvet4 Band was the core band of an "All Star" show at Salmon Days in Issaquah Wa.that included a rare US dynamic performance of Mungo Jerry (of "In the Summertime" fame). The show also featured Alan White, drummer from the band "Yes" and Don Wilson of the "Ventures".
